Cardamom falls by 0.01% on sluggish demand

Cardamom prices fell by 0.01 per cent on Friday at the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) due to the adequate stocks availability in the physical market on account of higher supply from the producing belts of Chandausi in Uttar Pradesh. At MCX Cardamom futures for July 2014 contract were trading at Rs. 908 per kg down by 0.01 per cent after opening at Rs. 905 against the previous closing price of Rs. 908.10. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 905 till the trading. (At 10.29 AM today). 

Sentiment weakened further as the traders booked profits at the prevailing levels in the midst of a subdued demand for the commodity. 

Kerala (70 per cent) Karnataka (20 per cent) and Tamil Nadu (10 per cent) are the cardamom growing states in India while about 90 per cent of the produce is consumed within the nation. The important markets for cardamom in India are Vandanmendu Bodinayakanur Kumily Thekkady Kumbum and Pattiveeran Patti in Kerala.

Cardamom prices were up 0.47% to Rs 901 per kg in futures market today on rising demand in the spot market.

Restricted supplies in the physical market from producing regions also supported the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in August rose Rs 4.20, or 0.47%, to Rs 901 per kg in a business turnover of 3 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in July gained Rs 2.40, or 0.26%, to Rs 919.20 per kg in 153 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by speculators, driven by rising demand in the spot market, mainly led to the rise in cardamom prices at futures trade.

Ingredients:

2 very ripe plantains (cut to your desired pieces)
3 tbsp of sweetened coconut milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tsp crushed cardamom
Method:
In a shallow pan add the sweetened coconut milk and the whipping cream, then go ahead and add the plantains and the crushed cardamom, and let it simmer till the plantains get nice and soft. Give it a taste test to make sure you have the taste according to how you like it sweetened. Plate and enjoy, garnish with a pinch of cardamom on top and enjoy!

Blueberry Bliss -- Raw Cake

Crust:

1C walnuts

2C pitted dates soaked

Method

Place dates and nuts in a food processor and blend until smooth

Filling:

3 cups blueberries [fresh or frozen]

1 1/2 cups macadamia nuts

1/2 cup pure maple syrup

2 tablespoons lemon juice

2 teaspoons ground cardamom or to taste

1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

3-4 tablespoons melted coconut cream

Method

Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth

Spread crust into a pie dish or spring form cake tin

Layer filling mix over crust

Place in fridge or freezer to set

Decorate with fresh blueberries, or seasonal fruit of choice and edible flowers

NB: This is not a low fat recipe

Crust variations: Macadamia nuts & dried apricots, Pecan nuts & dried pineapple, Walnuts & raisons, Almonds & dried figs. Add cacao nibs &/or powder.

Cardamom remained weak for the third day and prices fell by 0.93 per cent to Rs 901 per kg in futures trading today on increased offloading of positions by speculators, tracking subdued demand in the spot market.


Cardamom remained weak for the third day and prices fell by 0.93% to Rs 901 per kg in futures trading today on increased offloading of positions by speculators, tracking subdued demand in the spot market.

Adequate stocks position on increased arrivals from producing belts also influenced cardamom prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in June eased by Rs 8.50, or 0.93%, to Rs 901 per kg in business turnover of 6 lots.
Likewise, the spice for delivery in July contract traded tad lower by 50 paise, or 0.06%, to Rs 899.50 per kg in 155 lots.

Market analysts said the fall in cardamom prices in futures trade was mostly due to offloading of positions triggered by subdued demand at spot market.
